HALF YOUR COSTS, DOUBLE YOUR RANGE
1. Conventional turbofan aircraft
In contemporary medium- and long-haul aircraft, the power for propulsion is generated by gas turbines paired with a ducted fan (turbofan) or an unducted fan (turboprop).
Integration of Open AG-Cycle into the aircraft's gas turbine engine will reduce fuel consumption by around 60% and extend the aircraft' flight range by about 25%. Integration of Closed AG-Cycle, where the water is recuperated from water vapor of exhaust fumes, instead of stored in water tanks, will reduce fuel consumption by around 55% and double flight range.
Substituting the traditional aircraft power plant with a serial hybrid Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (S-CO2) power plant enhanced with AG-Cycle is expected to improve the aircraft's fuel economy by around tree times, and expand flight range by around 2.7 times. Remarkably, the 2017 Boeing 737 MAX 9's flight range would rise to about 17,700 km., if equipped with AG-S-CO2.
2. EVTOLs
Electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (EVTOLs) enhanced with AG-Cycle will not only replace traditional short-haul aviation and substantially take over medium-haul aviation but also create an entirely new and affordable weekday and weekend air-commuting segment that will expand the practicable weekday commuting radius up to 200 mi, and that of weekend commuting up to 1,100 mi.
Estimates show that AG-EVTOLs based on 5-seat Lilium jet will fly at around 220 MPH for distances up to 600 mi and longer. People will be able to work in big cities and reside within a 200 mi radius of the suburban zone, because one- way air-commuting by AG-EVTOL will only take around an hour for a 200 mi distance. Estimates show that the average annual price of this service will not exceed $23,000. Owners with vacation properties in distances up to 1,300 mi will be able to travel there on weekends, fully enjoying their full-fledged night rest for an affordable price.
Today, many companies are working on EVTOLs. Estimates show that at least for one existing EVTOL, 5-seat Lilium jet, the weight of the AG powerplant based on an externally fired gas turbine generator and a pack of ultra-capacitors will not exceed the weight of EVTOL's original battery pack, and it will also have substantially higher power, boosting the prototype's cruise speed.
